Itinerary:
Day 1: Cusco, Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes
Your journey starts at 8:00 AM with a pick-up from your hotel. You’ll then embark on the classic Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour. First, explore the charming town of Pisaq, its artisan market, and the impressive archaeological site. Afterward, enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in Urubamba, where you’ll taste the best of Peruvian cuisine.
The last stop of the day takes you to the ancestral village of Chinchero, where you’ll visit the incredible Inca fortress and archaeological site.
After the tour, follow your guide’s advice and wait for your train to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll spend the night in your assigned hotel. Your guide will contact you to provide all the details about your Machu Picchu visit the following day.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Cusco
The next day, with the information provided by your guide, you’ll head to Machu Picchu. First, take the bus from Aguas Calientes to the Machu Picchu entrance. After clearing the entrance controls, you’ll enjoy a 2.5-hour guided tour, depending on the circuit assigned.
Once the tour concludes, you’ll return to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll board your scheduled train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, transportation will return you to Cusco in approximately 2 hours.
Recommendations:
- Make sure to bring your passport and/or ID used for your Machu Picchu tickets.
- While many establishments accept credit cards, some may only accept cash, so remember to exchange money before your trip.
- The luggage limit on trains for this route is 5 kg. You may bring a small personal bag, but larger luggage will likely incur extra fees.
- Don’t forget insect repellent, sunscreen, and any prescribed medication.
- The weather at Machu Picchu is warmer than in Cusco, so layered clothing is recommended to adjust to temperature changes in the Andes.
