Huayna Picchu

The name which is referred literally names a dual (old – young) counterpart of the Quechua words Machu – Huayna, widely used in similar geographical formations along the Andean territory, on the other hand the term Picchu mentioned by Federico Kauffmann does not exist in the Quechua terminology and therefore the most possible is that it is derived from a Spanish term that is probably “peak”. This mountain, very famous in postcards and photographs gives the impressive background that we all appreciate when contemplating Machupicchu, rises 400 meters above the main square of the archaeological center and at 2650m is a conforming part of the batholito de Vilcabamba. Its ascent takes about an hour by a very steep road that cuts through stairways carved in living rock that must be carefully challenged especially in the rainy season, this in turn is full of platforms whose construction is difficult only to see, since they are located In impressive cliffs, the top is crowned by stony structures that give the idea of a shrine or worship center. A detail not to forget is the breathtaking view you have from this place, an experience that we will let you discover by yourself.

On the same mountain, on the northern slope, there is another site of importance known as the temple of the moon or adoration of the pachamama that is located in a cave where the fineness of its stonework testifies to the title conferred upon it.

Finally, to have the privilege of accessing the Huaynapicchu in addition to the increase of 48.00 soles in the case of foreigners and 64.00 soles in the case of national visitors and those belonging to the Andean community (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia) is due Make a pre-reservation of two months in advance because your large demand will cover the 40 spaces arranged per day in two schedules of 200 seats, at 7:00 am and 10:00 am respectively. Make your reservation beforehand!
